MedTourChina Health Checkup Packages Explained: Full Service vs. Checkup Only — Which One Is Right for You?

MedTourChina Health Checkup Packages Explained: Full Service vs. Checkup Only — Which One Is Right for You?

Two Ways to Book a Health Checkup Through MedTourChina

When you contact MedTourChina about arranging a health checkup in China, the first question we ask isn't "which hospital?" or "which package tier?" — it's this:

Do you want us to manage the whole experience, or do you just need help booking the hospital appointment?

These are two genuinely different products, with different price points, different levels of support, and different target users. This article explains both clearly, so you can decide which one fits your situation.

The short version:

  • Full Service Package: MedTourChina handles everything — hospital booking, medical interpretation, airport or hotel transfers, and on-the-ground escort through the checkup. One payment to MedTourChina, and the experience is done for you.

  • Checkup Only: MedTourChina books your hospital appointment and sends you the details. You go to the hospital yourself, pay at the front desk, and manage the logistics on-site. Lower cost, more independence.

Both options get you the same medical quality at the same hospitals. The difference is how much of the experience you want managed.

What Is the Full Service Package?

The Full Service Package is MedTourChina's signature product. It's designed for travelers who want a completely managed medical tourism experience — one where you don't have to think about logistics, language barriers, or navigation.

What's included in a typical Full Service Package:

  • Hospital and package selection consultation (we match you to the right hospital and package based on your health profile, travel dates, and budget)

  • Appointment booking at your chosen hospital

  • Medical interpreter (English-speaking coordinator present at the hospital on the day of your checkup)

  • Airport or hotel pickup and return transfer

  • On-site escort: a MedTourChina staff member guides you through every step of the checkup — from registration through to final results review

  • Results follow-up: digital report delivered after you leave, with a phone or video consultation to walk through findings

  • 24/7 WhatsApp/WeChat support from booking to post-checkup follow-up

Who this is for:

  • First-time medical tourists to China with limited Mandarin

  • Solo travelers who want company on the day

  • Travelers with complex itineraries who don't want to spend time figuring out hospital logistics

  • Business travelers with tight schedules who need efficiency and predictability

  • Anyone who prefers the certainty of a fully managed experience over DIY logistics

The key value: You arrive at the hospital and everything is handled. You don't check in, don't navigate, don't translate, and don't figure out what comes next. Someone is with you from the moment you enter the hospital to the moment you leave with your results.

What Is the Checkup Only Option?

Checkup Only is a lighter-touch service. MedTourChina's role is limited to helping you select the right hospital and package, booking your appointment, and providing the hospital's address and preparation instructions. Everything else is up to you.

What's included in the Checkup Only service:

  • Hospital and package consultation (same as Full Service — we help you choose)

  • Appointment booking at your chosen hospital

  • Hospital address, map, and directions provided in English

  • Fasting and preparation instructions forwarded by the hospital

  • Confirmation of appointment date and time

What's not included:

  • Airport or hotel transfer

  • Medical interpreter (you may be guided by hospital English-speaking staff where available — this varies by hospital and department)

  • On-site escort through the checkup process

  • Follow-up consultation on results after you leave

Who this is for:

  • Travelers already familiar with China's hospital system (repeat visitors, expats, people with Chinese language ability)

  • Budget-conscious travelers who are comfortable managing their own logistics

  • Travelers staying in China for an extended period who have time to navigate independently

  • Groups where someone in the party speaks Mandarin and can assist others

  • Travelers who just need the appointment booked and are confident handling the rest

The key value: Lower total cost and full independence. You manage the experience on your own terms.

Which Package Is Right for You? A Decision Guide by Traveler Type

Here's where it gets practical. The right choice depends on your specific situation. Use this guide to find your profile.

Choose Full Service Package if:

You're a first-time visitor to China with no Mandarin

The hospital experience in China can feel disorienting even with English-speaking staff. Having a dedicated interpreter and escort on the day removes all uncertainty. You're not figuring out where to go, what to sign, or what happens next — someone walks you through all of it.

You're a solo traveler

Beyond logistics, there's a practical medical reason to consider this: if your checkup includes endoscopy (gastroscopy or colonoscopy), sedation requires you to have a companion present to take you out of the hospital afterward. MedTourChina's escort can fill this role if you're traveling alone. You can't legally leave the hospital solo after sedation.

You're a business traveler with a tight schedule

A Full Service Package means your morning is structured and efficient. Someone picks you up from your hotel, gets you to the hospital and through the process in the minimum time, and returns you to your hotel or to your next meeting. No figuring out logistics on the day — just show up and do the checkup.

You're combining medical with a packed itinerary

If your China trip is already full — business meetings, factory visits, Canton Fair attendance — and you can't afford a single wasted hour on logistics, the Full Service Package is insurance against unexpected delays. We handle what we can, so you don't have to.

You have specific health concerns and want someone to advocate for you

If you're coming to China for a checkup because you're worried about something specific — a symptom, a family history, a previous finding — having a MedTourChina coordinator present who can ask the right questions and make sure the right specialists are involved adds genuine clinical value beyond just translation.

Choose Checkup Only if:

You've been to China before and know how hospitals work

If you've done this before, or if you have Mandarin ability or a local contact who can assist you, you may not need the full service model. The hospitals we recommend have English-friendly international departments — the experience can be manageable independently.

You're on a tight budget and can manage logistics

Checkup Only is significantly cheaper. If your primary concern is the medical quality and cost of the checkup itself, and you're comfortable handling transport and on-site navigation yourself, this is a valid choice.

You're a long-stay traveler or expat

If you're in China for weeks or months rather than days, you have more time to manage logistics independently. The Checkup Only model works well if this isn't your only medical visit and you're not optimizing every hour.

You're traveling with a group that includes a Mandarin speaker

If someone in your travel party speaks Mandarin, they can handle interpretation and navigation for the group. The Full Service Package is less necessary if you have an on-the-ground interpreter already.

You're booking for someone else — a parent, an employee — and they're going with a local contact

If you're coordinating a checkup for a family member or colleague who will be with a Mandarin-speaking friend or relative on the day, Checkup Only can make sense. You're handling the booking; someone else handles the on-site experience.

What Happens on the Day: A Side-by-Side

To make the experience difference concrete, here's what the same morning looks like under each option.

Full Service Package — Your Morning:

  • 7:00 AM: Private car picks you up at your hotel

  • 7:30 AM: Arrive at hospital; MedTourChina coordinator meets you at entrance

  • 7:30–11:00 AM: Escorted through every station — registration, blood draw, imaging, physician consultation — in the optimal order with no waiting

  • 11:00 AM: Results review with physician (interpreter present); preliminary findings discussed

  • 11:30 AM: Coordinator returns you to your hotel or next destination

  • 2–3 days later: Full written report delivered by email; follow-up phone consultation to walk through findings

Checkup Only — Your Morning:

  • You arrange your own transport to the hospital

  • 7:30 AM: Arrive at hospital, find the international department registration counter

  • Register in English (English-speaking staff available at most recommended hospitals, but may require a short wait)

  • 7:30–11:00 AM: Proceed through stations — blood draw, imaging, etc. You're given a floor guide; hospital staff help at each station

  • 11:00 AM: Results review with physician (English available at international departments)

  • You arrange your own transport back

  • 2–3 days later: Report sent by hospital; no coordinated follow-up unless requested

The medical quality is identical. The difference is the level of management and certainty around the logistics.

Cities and Hospitals: Which Option Is Available Where?

Both service models are available across all cities and hospitals in the MedTourChina network:

Beijing: Available at Arion Cancer Hospital, Raffles Hospital Beijing, and other partner institutions. Full Service recommended for first-time visitors — Beijing's hospital system is large and can be confusing.

Shanghai: Available at Jiahui International Hospital, SinoUnited Health, Shanghai Parkway, and others. Many Shanghai hospitals have well-developed English services, making Checkup Only more viable for returning visitors.

Guangzhou: Available at Clifford Hospital and other partner clinics. The Canton Fair draws many first-time visitors to Guangzhou — Full Service is popular during fair season.

Shenzhen: Available at United Family Healthcare Shenzhen and Distinct HealthCare. The Hong Kong–Shenzhen transit pattern makes Full Service particularly useful — someone to meet you at the border or airport and manage the first hospital experience is valuable.

Xi'an: Available at Xi'an International Medical Center. Xi'an's international patient department is well-developed, but MedTourChina Full Service is recommended given the city's appeal to first-time international visitors unfamiliar with Chinese hospital processes.

Common Questions

Q: If I choose Checkup Only, will hospital staff speak English?

A: At the hospitals MedTourChina works with — the international departments of premium private hospitals and public hospital VIP clinics — English-speaking staff are generally available. However, the depth of English support varies by hospital and by department. Complex medical conversations (discussing specific findings, asking detailed questions about test results) may still require interpretation assistance. If English fluency on the day is important to you, the Full Service Package is the safer choice.

Q: Can I upgrade from Checkup Only to Full Service after booking?

A: In most cases, yes — subject to availability. MedTourChina coordinators can often arrange Full Service on short notice if interpreter availability allows. However, airport transfer may not be possible if we're notified too late. It's best to decide before you travel.

Q: Does MedTourChina charge the hospital fee as an agency, or do I pay the hospital directly?

A: For the Full Service Package, MedTourChina can process the hospital payment on your behalf as part of the consolidated service fee, or you can pay the hospital directly — depending on the hospital's billing process. For Checkup Only, you pay the hospital directly at the front desk. Either way, the hospital fee is the published rate; MedTourChina does not add markup to hospital prices.

Q: What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

A: MedTourChina's cancellation and rescheduling policy is flexible. Hospital-only appointments can typically be cancelled or rescheduled without charge if done 48+ hours before the appointment. Full Service packages with confirmed interpreter and transfer bookings may require 72 hours notice. Contact us directly to discuss your situation.

How to Decide: A Quick Summary

Choose Full Service Package if:

  • It's your first time having a medical experience in China

  • You don't speak Mandarin

  • You're traveling alone and the checkup includes endoscopy

  • Your schedule is tight and you can't afford unexpected delays

  • You want certainty and minimal stress on the day

Choose Checkup Only if:

  • You've done this before or have Mandarin-speaking support

  • You're budget-conscious and comfortable managing logistics

  • You're a long-stay visitor or expat

  • You're traveling with a group that includes someone who can assist

  • The checkup is a basic tier where Full Service represents a large proportional cost

Both options lead to the same medical outcome. The question is how you want to experience the process getting there.
